Juana Willumsen

Dr. Technical officer, WHO, Department for Prevention of Noncommunicable Diseases

Juana Willumsen is a technical officer of the World Health Organization in the department for the Prevention of Noncommunicable Diseases. Her work focusses on population-based prevention of NCDs through policies to promote healthy diets and physical activity. She supports the implementation of the recommendations of the Commission on Ending Childhood Obesity. A nutritionist by training, she has also contributed to the development of technical guidance at WHO on infant and young child nutrition, preconception and antenatal care and the Every Newborn Action Plan to end preventable newborn deaths. She has a PhD from the Institute of Child Health, University College, London and worked for a number of years in South Africa.

Elina Puska is Expert R&D working in Food Learning Export Network (FLEN). FLEN is a network of Finnish higher education institutions offering professional services for various actors along the food chain. FLEN designs and implements tailor-made training programmes for different actors in the food chain e.g. governmental institutions, schools and universities, industries related to food. She is a co-leader the network and promotes FLEN abroad for food industry. She has a BBA from marketing, graduated from SeAMK. Since 2012, she has worked for SeAMK in various ERDF projects. Her work for FLEN promotes the internationalization of entire South Ostrobothnia food industry.

Anu Hopia

Prof. Hopia works as research professor of food development in University of Turku and holds also adjunct proferssorship (docent) in food science at University of Helsinki.  AH is a team leader of a 10-member research group Taste and Health  (located in South Ostrobothnia as part of Soth Ostrobothnian University network). She is PI of several on-going projects funded by Academy of Finland, Tekes – the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation, EU etc. She worked as a postdoctoral fellow at University of California Davis (USA).  AH has published 80+ academic papers on food science and several books and articles on popular science.

Päivi Mäki, MSc, development manager, THL, is a coordinator of the Finnish Obesity Prevention Programme. Her work focusses on contacts to municipalities and other key organizations and actors involved in work related to obesity prevention especially among children. She has been working in THL since 2006 in various expert functions including the development of child health monitoring systems in Finland and the use of register based data in monitoring childhood obesity. She has also long term experience as a public health nurse.

Henna Haapala is a researcher in LIKES Research Centre for Physical Activity and Health in Jyväskylä, Finland. She is a specialist in physical education, school physical activity promotion and adapted physical activity, and passionate in making children and adolescents with all abilities feel themselves comfortable and active in the school environment. Her work focuses on school-based physical activity promotion with a whole-of-school approach, and she has been working with the nationwide Finnish Schools on the Move programme since its beginning in 2010. She has a PhD from the University of Jyväskylä and as a physical and health education teacher by training, she has worked as a teacher educator in several Finnish universities and is currently also teaching physical education online in Kulkuri School of Distance Education for Finnish expatriate children and youth all over the world.
